David Strock Jr. was a successful Chester County athlete, umpire, and sports administrator. Dave was a graduate of Owen J. Roberts High School.”.

Strock was a three-sport athlete at OJR excelling in football, basketball and baseball. He accepted a full football scholarship to Virginia Tech University where he was the place-kicker for three varsity seasons. In 1972 he kicked field goals of 59 and 54 yards in the same game setting an NCAA record that stood for many years. That same year he and his younger brother, quarterback Don Strock, combined to lead Tech to a 34-32 victory over Oklahoma State with David kicking the winning field goal in the final few seconds. For their performance, the brothers were featured as Sports Illustrated players of the week.

After his college career Strock tried out as a kicker with several NFL teams including the Miami Dolphins, Washington Redskins, and Pittsburgh Steelers. He was a punter/place-kicker for the USFL’s Florida Blazers in 1974 and played in the first World Bowl.

Strock took a position at Pottstown high school at the conclusion of his professional career. A short time later he joined the athletic administration at his high school alma mater where he eventually served as Owen J. Robert’s Director of Student Activites and Athletic Director for nearly thirty-three years.

During his tenure, OJR consistently fielded outstanding athletic teams from which several players received college scholarships. He also oversaw the installation of maintenance free artificial turf for all the athletic fields, a significant cost savings for the athletic program’s budget. When he retired in 2015, he was lauded for his administrative acumen and his forward thinking. For many years, Dave umpired baseball throughout our region from Little League to the independent, professional Atlantic League. He mainly did high schools, Legion, amateur, and collegiate games.

David Strock has two children and five grandchildren, and lives with his wife Gloria in the Pottstown area. David’s brother, Don, was inducted into the CCSHOF with the class of 2009.
